Wilburton is a future station that located east of the Overlake Hospital in Bellevue along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railway right-of-way. Sound Transit plans to open the station in 2023, with station area planning for the Wilburton station beginning in late 2016.
In early 2014, Feet First hosted a Walk & Talk to discuss the particular connections and opportunities for this station. We continue collaborating with the City of Bellevue and emphasizing place making and connectivity.
- Provide seamless, safe, inviting, and universal access. We support pedestrian facilities or connections between the station, transportation options, and local destinations. Some of the improvements we would like to see the city implement include: safe crossings of NE 8th Street and 116th Avenue NE, accessible footpaths, and pedestrian infrastructure near the hospital.
- Integrate future trails into station-area plans. The proposed foot and bike trail would follow the BNSF corridor, providing a regional pathway eventually stretching from Renton to Woodinville. The project will extend from the Lake Washington waterfront through Downtown Bellevue and ultimately connect with the Wilburton Station. These trails would also provide bike and foot access to the Wilburton station.
